About
PRINCIPALS MESSAGE
Dear Cabrillo Community,
Cabrillo Elementary School has so much to celebrate. Our curriculum and instruction is aligned to Common Core State Standards and implemented by highly qualified teachers who are producing robust learning across all grade levels from Transitional Kindergarten through 6th grade.
Specifically, our teachers have been working on implementing a Professional Learning Community (PLC) model across the school site and within their grade level teams. In a PLC model, teacher action is driven by four questions:
-
What do we want students to know or be able to do? (Standards/Curriculum)
-
How will we know when they have learned? (Assessment)
-
What will we do when they have not learned? (Support/Reteach)
-
What will we do for those who have already mastered the material? (Enrichment)
The results of our universal assessments (i-ready) for both reading and math show that we are making progress and students are growing.
In addition to our focus on academics, Cabrillo meets the needs of the whole child with social-emotional and wellness education within our classrooms and in our Wellness Center. Our Wellness Center (also known as The Cougar Center) is expertly managed by our Student Support Specialist and staffed by two paraeducators. Additionally, we have Food Corps lessons on wellness in our school garden.
Cabrillo is also expanding our afterschool offerings. We have teachers and high school students who work with our kids in Math Club, and our soccer team did amazingly well during the 1st Trimester with 8 wins and only 1 loss.
Also, as we try to build more community connections, please consider volunteering at our site. Reach out to your child’s teacher and/or office for more information. Thank you for everything you do to make our school and community a great place for our scholars!
